Staying on Track for a New You!

"If you can't alter the difficulties headed your way, alter yourself to meet them."  -unknown-

Remember my "New Year, New You" blog from (can you believe it?) almost five months ago!  Yes,  we popped the champagne and rang in 2012 five months ago and we are quickly chasing summer here in the Northern hemisphere.    It's time to take a look at our new year's goals and update, get rid of, or tweak them.   The first week of January I wrote down six significant goals to be completed this year.  These include personal goals,  family goals, and goals for my business,  all focusing on my body, mind, or soul.  I'm happy to report achieving two out of my six aspirations so far.  A third, "Lead a group of 40 or more to the Holy Land" is almost on track as I finally have confirmation for a January 3rd, 2013 departure.  Three days into the next year is acceptable so I'm crediting myself with nearly hammering-out three out of my six total ambitions so far this year.  One of my objectives needs to be updated and still one more needs to be completely eliminated because my plans and my circumstances have changed since January 1.
It's critical that we check-in on our goals so that we might re-evaluate and re-focus on them or let them go.  That's it!  Either re-commit or drop it and move on!  No need to give yourself a hard time or spend too much time wondering why you changed your mind and why you no longer have the same desires.   Things happen.  Heed this warning however;  do not give up a worthy goal looming powerfully over you.   Ask yourself, "does this thing still occupy my thoughts and/or dreams?"  There's definitely plenty of time to accomplish anything because the good news is you have seven months left before 2013!  Even if you never came up with your goals in the first place you can do it now...today.
Get out a piece of paper and write down at least 3 goals.   Write them first because your brain processes your physically writing with pen and paper differently than just using a computer.   Once you have written them down I then suggest you use your computer and re-copy them.  Title the page, "Goals for 2012",  print and frame them.  Hang them in a prominent place where you will read them at least once a day.     You may want to include this verse on the page:

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.  Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11

What are your hopes and dreams for a prosperous future?  Believe in yourself,  stay focused, surround yourself with people who can help.   Remember...

"If you are failing to plan, you are planning to fail."  It's not too late for a "New You!"

  1. Yes! Good to write things down and I too, love to tack the list to the wall! Recommitting if still a goal is good too. Apart from New Year's resolutions I like to write my list of "things most important" and then write when I last did them. That for me is a good way to think how committed I am or how important those things really are to me.

  3. Hi J.M. As always you are so kind and supportive. Just what a person needs in this tough world. You are a great inspiration on my blog. Funny but I posted something on my Facebook page referring to my blog and I usually get lots of comments. This time I received none and then when I asked another question regarding people's goals I got one response! I think that people might be afraid to fail. I fail almost every day in some way but I keep going anyway.
To Rose-Although I do not have all 40 people booked yet (I don't even have the brochure finished yet!) I will give myself the permission to count all my work this far in booking a trip "good enough" for now. I am aiming for that many people but if I fall short it's okay too. The important thing to me is that I know it is time for another trip and people are also asking for it. We will continue to take trips for the rest of our lives...it is so very important to continue to revisit the place where Jesus was born and lived.

  4. These past few months my thoughts have been with my nephew and his wife. They were expecting their first child. Yesterday, I became a great aunt of a baby girl. Her middle name is my late mom's name.
I am so moved by that. A brand new baby is a miracle from God.
    God bless all of you.

  5. I have some hurt feelings with a member of my family. It's hard to forget the way she treated me in the past. My goal is to let go of the hurt and move on from here. I am working through the process and we are getting along better now. I know God would not want me to hold onto these feelings. Please pray for me.
